My name is Anastin Hornsby, I am seventeen years old, and am the founder of this organization. In my free time I like to play sports, enjoy water activities, and hanging out with friends.
I created Tying Knots of Love to assist foster children with the transition into placement which is often a traumatic time.
The vision for Tying Knots of Love was created to support children in West Virginia's foster care system. West Virginia is experiencing a large percentage of children being placed in the foster system due to the drug epidemic. Tying Knots of Love is a nonprofit organization that donates tie blankets and welcoming boxes to local foster care organizations and first responders. We have made it our mission to go and speak to local elementary schools and talk about ways that we can help children placed in foster care. Prior to the pandemic, we planned events for tie blankets to be made and to date we have made over one hundred blankets to distribute in my community. Moving forward, we have now partnered with sixteen State Police Detachments, Summersville Pediatrics, and elementary schools in Nicholas County. They are keeping welcoming bags in their vehicles or school to give to children when the need arise. We have distrbuted over two hundred bags to various places over the state. The organization is now looking to expand even further in the future.
